Introduction
This zone is the entry point to different Knowledge bases all dedicated to Industrial Product Design. The number of chapters is subject to increasing.
Keywords: knowledge management, knowledge base, industrial product design
Definitions
Note: The definition below is there due to to its immediate necessity, a full set of definitions is available here!
Knowledge base
The big difference between databases and knowledge bases is the freedom to access the information while removing the fields and tables barriers. XML allows both structures and visibility to be performed.
Available Knowledgebases
The following Knowledge Bases show different knowledge organization techniques. All the data compiled in these documents concern industrial product design. The different chapters are organized as written below: These lists are non exhaustive bases, segmented and redundant. The user may find the same information at different places. These redundancies allow a quicker and safer access to the relevant information. Due to copyrights, no standards are available on the CD. Some abstracts have been used to demonstrate usability techniques.
Chapter 01 | List of civil standards including the ISO 9000:2000 Quality Management System Standard. Note: ISO 9000:2000 documents like the Quality Manual are located in the Quality Management System (QMS) Zone. |
Chapter 02 | List of Military documents useful in Industrial Product Design |
Chapter 03 | List of Department of Energy Standards and Handbooks interesting the product development industry. Note: Specialized standards like Nuclear safety are mentioned in light gray color but cannot be accessed. |
Chapter 04 | List of technical documents dedicated to product design and engineering. These documents are not standards |
Chapter 05 | List of patents collected during project initiation. Patents are a key data in a feasability decision. |
Chapter 06 | Character fonts is a catalogue of referenced fonts. These fonts have been selected and⁄or ur used in projects. This knowledge base is a typical example of capitalization. |
Chapter 6 | Third party catalogues Component coice is the most important time consuming activity in a design and engineering bureau. Give an optimized access to these items is a high value added activity. |
Chapter 08 | Circuit Cellar Magazine Index of Contents is and exhaustive, up to date collection of top level electronics magazines. There, the purpose is to help the user to find the relevant information with the browser's search function. This base is active: The user can access the contents, with a copyright limitation: Only the magazine's covers are available. |
Chapter 09 | Everyday Practical Electronics Index of Contents is an other way to present informations to the user. It is very similar to the previous chapter but presented in a reverse order. |
Chapter 10 | Knowledge Management Framework. The CEN has published an extremely important document about KM. This document is a world class reference and is available for free. |
